HWPL Peace Law - Ground-breaking Tool to Attain World Peace

HWPL Peace Law - Groundbreaking Tool to Attain World Peace

After months of eager anticipation, the day arrived. This was the day that I wait and pray. I watched the entire ceremony on live stream yesterday.

Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War presented

The HWPL International Law Peace Committee, consisting of 20 highly respected international law experts, has publicly presented the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War in the Coex Auditorium, Seoul, South Korea on March 14.

'The Proclamation Ceremony of the Declaration on the Cessation of War and Achievement of World Peace' was witnessed by more that 1,000 senior government officials, legal experts, civic leaders, the academia and other stakeholders from across all continents.

The proclamation ceremony will serve not only as a platform to proclaim such a Declaration to the public but also to initiate its development process into an enforceable International Law, bringing forth a world without wars.

Since its official inauguration in September 2015, the HWPL International Law Peace Committee has contributed their expertise to develop the draft of the Declaration through in-depth discussions and conferences. The committee members, under the clear purpose of prohibiting war and war-like activities, have been tirelessly working to develop the draft of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War which was publicly presented only after 6 months the committee was inaugurated.

This moment at this place will never be forgotten!

Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL who presented the articles of the Declaration said, “In order to accomplish the collective wishes of all humanity, we have gathered here today. This very moment at this very place will never be forgotten in the history of mankind for the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War will be publicly proclaimed. All citizens of this globe will have to gather their hearts to acknowledge and urge this Declaration to embrace the new era and new life full of peace.”

HWPL Peace Law Becomes Ground-Breaking Tool to Peace

The core elements of the Declaration include prohibition of: the threat or use of force; obtaining war potential; and dispute settlement; freedom of religion; spreading a culture of peace.

The declaration seeks to prohibit the production, sales and supply of all weapons and the training of war potentials. It also seeks to represent the voices of women and the youth, the most vulnerable in armed conflict.

Wars in Syria, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Afghanistan, Libya and those in other parts of the globe have deprived humanity of development while millions of lives have been lost.

Heads of state and heads of governments should acknowledge that they are uniquely well-placed to encourage a culture of peace, and should act to support this declaration to bring about the cessation of war.

HWPL Peace Law is a powerful and ground-breaking tool to dispose of all means that initiate war and armed conflicts, thus further attaining humanity’s goal, peace.

Leaders present at the launch of the declaration yesterday pledged total support for the restoration of global peace and said it was critical that everyone adopted the declaration, seen as a powerful tool to attain peace and restore human dignity.

HWPL was established a few years ago to foster peace in a world fraught with conflict. Its arms, the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) and the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) have also been in the forefront of eliciting support for peace within their respective constituencies.

HWPL believes that the global community should work together to create a world of peace and that they, themselves, should all become messengers of peace. Global citizens transcending nationalities, ethnicities, and religions are increasingly joining the flow of making our world more peaceful with their commitment to help establish HWPL's International Peace Law.
