World Peace, Do You Want to Achieve the Cessation of War?

Have you ever heard of the organization called the Heavenly Culture of World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL)?

There are many peace organizations, both domestic and international.

I received a great impression of the activities of HWPL's peace organization which has truly been working towards achieving peace and has also been trying to ensure that our descendants inherit a world without any war.

여러분은 세계평화광복이라는 단체에 대해 들어보셨나요? 국 내외에 수 많은 평화 단체들이 있지만, 저는 진정으로 평화를 사랑하고 전쟁이 없는 세상을 사랑하는 자녀들에게 물려주기 위해 노력하는 하늘문화세계평화광복의 활동에 큰 감동을 받았는데요.

There are many peace activities happening in the world. There are also lots of people who have been awarded Nobel peace prizes, but in reality, our children hear endlessly about war and tragedy. There is still an outpouring of the news of war on TV.

The sorrow of war could disappear if the world achieves peace...

Peace cannot be accomplished in a day. As it rains with moisture coming from the sky, as the bright light shines to the world, if the hearts of people who are longing for world peace gather together, I think a world at peace will come soon.

세상에 많은 평화 운동이 있고, 노벨평화상을 수상 받은 사람들도 많았지만 우리 자녀들에게 펼쳐진 현실은 '끝을 알수 없는 전쟁 소식' 뿐입니다. 텔레비전에서는 아직도 전쟁 소식이 터져 나오고 있지요.

이 세상에 평화가 이루어진다면 전쟁으로 인한 슬픔이 없어질텐데... 하루아침에 이루어지진 않겠지만, 하늘에서 비가 촉촉히 내리듯이, 환한 빛이 온 세상을 비추듯 세계평화를 갈망하는 사람들의 마음이 하나로 모여진다면, 이 세상은 머지않아 평화가 도래하지 않을까 생각합니다.

The reason that I became interested in the peace walk of HWPL is because of a speech by Nam Hee Kim, the organization's head. The speech regarded women who are working together to achieve world peace and they possess a mother's heart to protect our children.

I want to give a little help to the movement of the Heavenly Culture World Peace, Restoration of Light(HWPL) which has been traveling all over the world in an effort to help our children inherit a peaceful world without war.

제가 하늘문화세계평화광복 걷기대회에 관심을 가지게 된 이유는 바로 김남희 대표님의 연설 때문입니다. 여성들이 자녀들을 지키기 위해 어머니의 마음을 가지고 세계평화를 이루기 위한 일에 함께 해야 한다는 말이었습니다. 전쟁이 없는 평화로운 세상을 자녀들에게 물려주기위해 전 세계를 다니면서 세계평화를 외치는 하늘문화세계평화광복... 저는 이들의 행보에 작은 도움을 주고 싶습니다.

HWPL has held peace walks for world peace every year and have proclaimed declarations of world peace at the Peace Gate of Seoul Olympic Park beginning in 2013.

During these walks in May, performances promoting world peace and the cessation of the war are held in front of the Peace Gate, surrounded by resounding crowds full of hot, passionate and cheering citizens holding the flags of all nations in their hands.

I am very proud to join the walk for world peace which is conducted all around the world, including Korea.

HWPL은 2013년, 서울 올림픽공원 평화의 문에서 '세계평화선언'을 하고 세계평화걷기대회를 매년 열고 있습니다. 5월이 되면 평화의 문 앞에서는 전쟁종식과 세계평화를 소망하는 퍼포먼스와 손에 만국기를 들고 환호를 하는 시민들의 뜨거운 열정이 가득 울려 퍼지고 있는데요. 대한민국 뿐만이 아닌 세계 곳곳에서 진행하고 있는 세계평화광복 걷기대회.. 이 일에 함께 동참하고 있는 사실에 자부심을 느끼고 있습니다.

♥ I'd like to introduce HWPL

HWPL stands for Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light. This refers to a Restoration with Light to achieve world peace through Heavenly Culture.

HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization registered under the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs that encompasses leaders and volunteer organizations as well as youth who wish for a beautiful world that is full of love and peace as global peace transcends differences in

culture, border, race, politician, religion, gender, age, etc. HWPL is a peace organization that provides sustainable and empowering solutions and practices.

HWPL은 Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light의 약자로 하늘문화, 세계평화, 빛을 통한 회복의 의미를 담고 있습니다. HWPL(하늘문화세계평화광복)은 한국 외무부에 등록되어 있는 비영리, 비 정부 국제기구로서, 사랑과 평화가 가득한 아름다운 세상을 꿈꾸는 각계 각 층의 지도자와 자원봉사 단체, 청년 등이 모여 국경, 인종, 정치, 종교, 성별, 연령 등을 모든 것을 초월하여 지구촌 평화 실현을 위해 확실하고 지속적인 해결책을 제시하고, 실천하는 평화 사절단입니다.

HWPL stands before God and all nations in its bid to enact an international law promoting world peace. This signed peace agreement will provide world peace for all our future generations. 

Also, we are working to create a world that is governed by God and becoming one with God, the creator of the World Alliance of Religions.

HWPL(하늘문화세계평화광복)은 하나님 앞에서 세계 만민 앞에서 전쟁 종식 세계 평화를 위한 국제법 제정에 모두 동의하고 서명함으로써 평화를 후대의 유산으로 남기며, 또 종교 대통합으로 창조주 하나님 안에서 하나가 되고 하나님이 통치하시는 세계가 되게 하기 위해 일하고 있습니다.

I have been living a routine life that has allowed me to forget our past history that has been made painful because of war. This situation is unworthy and fails to acknowledge the achievement of our ancestors who sacrificed their lives to protect our country.

However, as I am living in this divided country as a Korean citizen, I must say that we must not let our descendants inherit the tragedy of a fratricidal war like that experienced by Korea.

We can surely give our children world peace if we support and stay interested in what HWPL has been doing for peace. 

우리는 나라를 지키기 위해 목숨까지도 버린 선조들의 공과 전쟁으로 인한 아픔을 잊어버리고, 그저 지나간 역사로 치부하고 일상을 살아가고 있었습니다. 그러나 전세계 유일한 분단 국가에 살고 있는 국민으로서 한국전쟁과 같은 동족상잔의 비극을 우리 후손에게 물려줘서는 절대 안 됩니다.

HWPL이 펼치고 있는 일에 관심을 가지고 지지하며 응원해주신다면 우리 자녀들에게 반드시 평화를 물려줄 수 있을 것입니다.

Religious leaders dialogue for the cessation of war

On June 25, “HWPL”(Chairman Man Hee Lee) together with the Jewish Holocaust Museum hosted Peace This Together, a monthly dialogue where prominent religious leaders in South Africa come together for the purpose of bringing all religious wars to an end through comparing and contrasting religious scriptures to identify the common thread that runs through them. 

Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (“HWPL”), the host of the event, is a non-profit international peace organization that is spreading peace movement most enthusiastically and systematically in the world.

HWPL has affiliated organizations, International Women’s Peace Group (“IWPG”, Chairwoman Nam Hee Kim), and International Peace Youth Group (“IPYG”, Director Du Hyun Kim) and they are working through and for the women and youth members in the world.

The religious leaders’ dialogue being held at 60 HWPL offices in 42 countries was under the watchful guidance of Chairman of HWPL, Mr. Man Hee Lee.

In order to relieve the deep resentment of young people who have died in battles and achieve this world of peace, Chairman Man Hee Lee is currently calling upon the heads of the states and Chief Justices, Judges and leaders across the world to jointly draft an international law for the cessation of war.

On March 28, 2015, they erected the first world peace monument and designated May 25 as ‘HWPL Day’ on their visit to Bafokeng Nation in South Africa. 

Besides, Carson City in California and City Council of Alexandria, Virginia proclaimed ‘HWPL Day’ and the National Assembly of Ecuador has recently conferred an award of national recognition to acknowledge and cooperate with the works of HWPL for the commemoration of May 25th.

On May 25, 2015, they flew to Mindanao in Philippines to erect another monument and designated January 24 as ‘HWPL Day’, commemorating the cease-fire of a 40-year conflict between the Catholic and Muslim leaders in Mindanao. 

The peace campaign of HWPL―hosting religious leaders’ dialogue every month and drafting an international law for the cessation of war is expected to be the light of hope for those who are suffering wars.

Letter Sent to Mother

August, 10th 1950. Thursday. Sunny.

Mother, I killed a man.

I killed the moment 

I threw the scary explosive weapon called a hand grenade.

The explosive sound of the grenade tore my eardrums.

Even as I am writing at this moment,

my ears are filled with a terrifying roar.

It doesn't matter that they are enemies, 

but I was thinking that they are also human. 

Furthermore, I consider that we are also of 

the same ethnicity since we share 

the same blood and same language.

My heart is upset and heavy.

Many classmates are next to me and seem like they are waiting for death 

at this moment while we are waiting for the enemies to attack.

We are lying face down flat under the hot sun.

The enemies are keeping silent. 

We don't know when they will attack again.

There are too many enemies and only 71 of us.

I am scared to think about what is going to happen.

Mother, I might die today.

The many enemies just don't seem to go away.

Mother, I am not afraid of death,

I am scared of thinking 

that I can't meet mother and brothers and sisters again.

However, I will survive.

I will definitely live and come back home.

Mother, I am barely settled down in my heart now.

Mother, I will surely go back home to be next to you.

I'd like to eat some lettuce.

I'd like to drink a bowl of cold water from a spring so cold that my teeth hurt.

Ah! Those guys are coming at us.

I will write you back again.

Mother, Bye! bye!, Ah, let's not say bye!

I will write you back...then.

Student Soldier Wooguen Lee

[War and Peace Story] 16 years old, Student Soldier

Student soldier Woo Guen Lee, who supposed to kill his own ethnic people 

at the time of the Korean War, wrote this letter to his mother.

Student soldier Wooguen Lee, who belonged to the 3rd Army, 

died in combat on August 10th,1950.

The letter was found in his pocket.

Student soldier Wooguen Lee urgently began writing this letter

when a battle was calming down.

He tried to write a letter to his mother,

but... it was the first and last that he wrote in his life. ㅠㅠ

A sorrowful, unstable heart emerged to kill the enemy,

but we don't know when we die.

You can feel the tragedy of killing one's own people

through this honest letter to Woo guen's mother.

Student Soldier' Story became the material for the film

Of the 71 people at the 3rd Army base, 48 student soldiers, 

including Woo guen Lee, died on that fierce battlefield.

Also, 13 people were taken prisoner and 4 people were missing.

Through the holy sacrifice of the student soldiers,

our troops gained valuable time to withdraw.

Their story became the material for the film "Into the Fire(포화 속으로)"

To Remember the Tragedy of the War!

Yet, life didn't bloom properly during the flower of their youth.

Young people had to have guns to fight, the same brothers had to kill,

and mothers had to bury their offspring in their hearts.

If you are a Korean who suffered from the tragedy of the Korean War,

no matter who you are, you should cherish peace.

All of us living at this time 

who have faced the 65th anniversary of the Korean War on 6.25

have to have a moment to wake up to the tragedy of war and the value of peace.

We need to let out interested cheers 

in accomplishing peace to the put an end to war.

So, what brings peace to our hearts?

If two people consider each other as evil, 

both will become evil, and if the two consider each other as good, 

then both will become good people. 

God gave his one and only son for sinners who have 

become his enemies, and Jesus, who was sinless, 

gave his own life to atone for the sins of sinners. 

Jesus commanded us to forgive and love one another.

The Lord said to love and pray for one’s enemies, 

and to feed them if they are hungry (Mt 5:44, Rom 12:20). 

Forgiveness, love and blessings – these are the remedies of salvation.

But hate also exists.

Forgiveness exists for that reason.

Doesn't peace come to my heart 

when I have found love based on my forgiveness?

Peace to my heart is peace to all of us...

To protect our children from war,

we must act with a mother's heart.

Thus, we (IWPG), from our headquarters in South Korea, 

are acting with that purpose.

All of the world has been supporting a wave of peace 

that transcends religions, nations, ideas and races.

Our focus must be on a unity towards peace, 

not on conflict among religions, ideas and politics.

Finding the unity in peace can truly accomplish world peace.

This is the only way our descendants will 

not inherit any more tragedy in Korea.

If you, all of you in this place, 

become part of a peace family, world

peace and the unification of North and South Korea 

will surely come true in our lifetimes.

The world needs the strength and love of mothers 

to protect our children and leave a peaceful world as a lasting legacy. 

It is a mother’s heart that will remind the world how much we need peace.

Though one may be weak, many joined as one can be powerful.
